Godzilla 2 Review (2019) [PG13]

Godzilla

For those viewers out who like monsters and mythical creatures, I have a movie that you would definitely enjoy, which is titled “Godzilla 2”.

Storyline

In case you have not watched the previous movie “Godzilla” or have no idea what this mythical creature is, allow me to provide a brief introduction to Godzilla. This whole movie sequel revolves around this radioactive dinosaurian creature named “Godzilla”, which originated from Japan. It has many notable fights against monsters, one of which is the world-famous King Kong. I believed in many previous movie sequels about Godzilla, King Kong is the only monster which Godzilla hasn’t defeated till this date. However, it is still regarded as the King of Monsters.

Alright, now back to this movie. This time, it’s the most fearsome monster Godzilla against one of its arch-enemy: King Ghidorah (Golden dragon with three heads, no arms, and giant wings). This whole battle began from a wrong move made by Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga), which awoken and released King Ghidorah. Now, they had to fight to be crowned as the king of the monsters. So which monster prevailed? That’s for you to find out when you go watch the movie.

Overall, I feel that the storyline is pretty bad and could be prevented altogether if Dr. Emma Russell did more research about the monster that she was dealing with. This movie seemed like a redemption movie for her stupid actions that started the whole fight between Godzilla and King Ghidorah. It was never a logical decision to release a ferocious monster and that she staged the release of King Ghidorah made her looked like a villain. Humans made several silly mistakes and Godzilla was the hero to save the day. While this movie made Godzilla truly the king of the monsters, I feel that the battle could have initiated in a much better way, probably getting Alan Jonah (Charles Dance) to be the true villain who had the idea of releasing King Ghidorah himself for the purpose of getting something out from the government.

Character Development

This movie is definitely bigger and better than the previous Godzilla movie as it does not only features Godzilla and King Ghidorah, but also other iconic monsters such as Mothra at the beginning of the movie and Rodan which is King Ghidorah ally. They were important in the build-up of this epic fight. While Godzilla remained as the main character of this entire movie, there was also a fair share of emphasis on the other characters that made this whole movie interesting to watch and not just Godzilla fighting all the time.

The human characters in this movie also play a big part in this movie, especially Dr. Emma and Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) as one began the fight between the two formidable monsters while one made an important contribution to the final battle. In general, the director did a great job of ensuring that the human characters were able to fit in well in this movie which was dominated mostly by the monsters.

Special effects

In terms of the CGI, it was probably one of the best so far as compared to the other previous Godzilla movies. Duh, of course. *Rolling eyes* There were so many monsters in this movie that at one point, I thought that the other monsters would not look as nice as Godzilla. Turned out I was wrong as the other monsters looked as stunning as they could have been. From the skin texture to the body movements of these monsters, the team’s attention to detail has made the monsters looked very natural as if they really exist.

The CGI team has also made the environment looks as realistic as possible and I didn’t expect the resting place of Godzilla to look so majestic and perfectly intact. My only concern in this movie was how the human characters were able to drive their vehicle around with ease during the final battle between Godzilla and King Ghidorah when the buildings were literally destroyed? It would make sense if they kept the distance short and ran to safety using the helicopter.

Memorable Scene

My favorite scene in this movie would be the scene where Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) sacrifices himself by manually detonating a device, which revived Godzilla and increased its power. Yes, Godzilla actually died in this movie. Want to know what happens? Go and catch the movie to find out.

Anyway, this scene was probably the most touching and important in this movie. Without his sacrifice, Godzilla will not be brought back to life and King Ghidorah would have taken over the world.

Overall Movie Rating: 6 / 10 ( The initial reason as to how the fight started was super weak and can be prevented. This time around, I feel Dr. Emma Russell was the true villain as she thought she was saving the earth but unfortunately, she was wrong. Thankfully, the stunning special effects and battle fight made up for the poor storyline.)

Captain Marvel Review (2019) [PG13]

Captain-Marvel-Character-Posters

For those who have watched “Avengers: Endgame”, you would have noticed that there is a female superhero that appeared but didn’t have a proper introduction. Well, her name is Captain Marvel and this is her introduction movie, titled “Captain Marvel”.

Storyline

The story began with a flashback of a U.S. Air Force pilot named Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) where she was hit by a blast by what was known as the Tesseract (Space Stone). Back to the present, she began her training as a Kree warrior. She was then sent out to complete a mission: Save one of the Kree warriors and take out the Skrulls. The mission turned out to be a trap and she was captured by the Skrulls. However, the Skrulls did not want to execute her, instead, they need to retrieve important information from her memory. What is this information they needed and how she finds herself, partnering with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) on Earth? Why is there a cat in this movie and what its’ role in this movie? All these questions will be answered when you go watch the movie.

Overall, as this movie served as the final piece of the puzzle for the Marvel “Avengers: Endgame”, it really gave this remarkable and important superhero a proper introduction into the MCU. There is also a very strong message in this movie which I believed is to encourage anyone to never give up no matter what obstacles are ahead of you.

Character Development

While the main focus of this movie is on Carol Danvers, there is also a substantial amount of emphasis placed on the supporting characters, especially Nick Fury, as he was the first person to discover her existence and become her partner. This movie also showed more of Nick Fury’s past and how he started the avengers initiative.

All these supporting characters played an important role as Carol Danvers transited from a Kree warrior to what she is now: Captain Marvel. There were a lot of dilemmas and challenges she had to face, but it was all made easier with the help of Nick Fury and her best friend, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch).

Special Effects

In every Marvel movie, there will always be tons of special effects. However, in this movie, the director placed more focus on talking about Carol Danvers’s past and how she gets her superpowers. Therefore, I would say you shouldn’t expect too much of special effects but rather place your focus on understanding the character of Carol Danvers.

There was a very interesting scene where Carol Danvers can change the color of her costume, with the help of Sergeant Trouble (Monica Rambeau). The color transition was smooth as they kept changing the colors. If only I would have that device and suit, I don’t think I will ever need to have another piece of clothing. XD

Memorable Scene

My personal favorite scene in this movie would have to be the funny scene where Nick Fury and the rest of the supporting characters were captured and had to undergo an assessment to see whether they posed any form of threat to the Kree warriors. The reaction from Nick Fury was so funny after he realized the cat is more dangerous than him. What’s your memorable scene in this movie? Leave a comment and let us know. 🙂

Overall Movie Rating: 7 / 10 ( I was expecting a war between Ronan and Captain Marvel, but sadly Ronan backed out. How I wished I could see more of Captain Marvel in action in this movie, but sadly, there is already too much stuff to cramp in this 2 hours movie.)

P.S. There is 1 End-Credit Scene.

Stuber Review (2019) [M18]

Stuber

Disclaimer: This movie is rated M18 as it contains sexual contents. However, the review below does not has any sexual contents so please continue to read.

It’s time for another movie review. This week, I’m reviewing the latest action comedy movie, titled “Stuber”.

Storyline

The story began 6 months ago, a police detective named Vic Manning (Dave Bautista) and his partner, Sara Morris, were chasing a notorious drug lord, Tedjo. Unfortunately, Sara was killed by Tedjo. 6 months later, Vic finally had the chance to take revenge for his partner and arrest Tedjo. Sadly, this happened just after he undergoes a laser eye surgery which affected his eyesight temporarily.

Now, enters an Uber driver, named Stu (Kumail Nanjiani). He drove Uber and worked in a sports store under his boss, who gave him the nickname “Stuber”. Stu + Uber = Stuber, get it? Anyway, he was living his average life to support his crush, Becca (Betty Gilpin) until he got an Uber request from Vic. Stu thought it’s just another customer who he hoped can give him 5 stars by the end of the ride. However, this turned out to be a long and thrilling ride for Stu as he embarked on a journey with Vic to capture Tedjo. Did they manage to solve the case or did Tedjo escaped once again? That’s for you to find out when you go watch the movie.

Character Development

In this movie, it addressed parenting and social issues which are very relatable to the real world. Stu, who was living an average life with a goal in mind, which was to impress Becca. Therefore, he took on multiple jobs to support her dream. However, with the help of Vic, he started to do things differently and move away from his average and boring life.

On the other hand, Vic was so focused on solving the crime that he neglected his own daughter for many years. After clearing things out with Stu and the unwavering support from Vic’s daughter, the father and daughter relationship improved.

In summary, you can see the chemistry between these 2 main characters as they come together to solve this crime and transform into a better version of themselves.

Memorable scenes

Among the action and comedy scenes throughout this movie, my personal favorite would be the brawl scene between Vic and Stu, which happened just before their encounter with Tedjo. It seemed to me like a therapy session for the both of them as they said the hard truth about each other, which obviously did not end up well and began to fight. Stu, which obviously has neither fighting experience nor background, still gave his everything to fight Vic despite the disadvantage. Well, technically, Vic did not have the full advantage as well, as he was still recovering from Laser eye surgery. Therefore, he can’t really see well and fell several times. Throughout the fight, they spoke their heart out and afterward, they sort of became good friends even though they fought. If men were to have a heart to heart talk, I would imagine it would end up something like that in the movie. XD

Overall Movie Rating: 6 /10 (Even though this action-comedy movie addressed social issues that are relatable to the real world, it left me with several questions about the movie in particular that I don’t understand. (E.g. Why is the Tedjo chasing Stu and Vic after their masterplan has been exposed?) Besides, there weren’t many plot twists which got me surprised and while there were some scenes that contain sexual content, I feel all these scenes can be removed or reduced.)

Avengers : Endgame Review (2019) [PG13]

Avengers Endgame

The most anticipated movie of 2019: “Avengers: Endgame” is finally out in all cinemas. I understand this is a super-duper late review and most of you would probably have watched it already, maybe once, twice or even more. However, for those who have yet to watch a single Marvel movie till this day, you have come to the right place. I will upload another post somewhere soon which will show the timeline of all MCU movies, right from the beginning to this latest Avengers movie.

However, let’s just focus on this movie that we are all very excited about. NO Major spoilers so don’t worry.

Storyline

Before I begin to tell you all the storyline, allow me to say that this movie is 3 hours long but it is definitely worth your time to watch from the start till the end. So a piece of friendly advice before you start watching this movie, do some stretching and visit the toilet if you have to. Now back to the storyline.

After “Avengers: Infinity War”, half of the world’s population and the superheroes continued with their life after Thano’s Snap. Ironman (Robert Downey, Jr.) and his only partner Nebula (Karen Gillan) were trapped in outer space with no food or water. Ironman left his final message for his wife Pepper Potts and went to sleep.

On the other side back on Earth, Captain America and the rest of the team who survived began to think of ways to bring back their allies and the unfortunate half of the world’s population who vanished. That is when the Pager that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) left stopped working and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) appeared, asking for Nick Fury’s whereabouts. From there, they began their adventure to redemption and revenge.

For those who did not stay till the end of the “Avengers: Infinity War” for the post-credits scene, in the final scene, Nick Fury and his partner, Maria Hill (Cobie Smulder), were the unfortunate ones that did not survive the Thanos’s Snap and vanished. However, before Nick Fury vanished, he picked up his pager and sent a distress signal to Captain Marvel. If you do not know who is Captain Marvel and where she comes about, stay tuned as there will be another post where I talked about the movie “Captain Marvel”.

Anyway, back to the story, Antman (Paul Rudd) initiated a plan that could reverse the Thano’s snap and with Captain America and Black Widow taking the lead, the surviving superheroes were assembled for one final time. However, things were not that easy, especially when the enemy is the all mighty Thanos. He heard of the plan and began his quest to stop the Avengers plot from reversing the situation.

At the end, who survived? The Avengers or Thanos once again? Find out when you go watch the movie “Avengers: EndGame”.

Overall, the whole storyline was fantastic, even though many of the viewers may have sort of know the ending. However, the build-up to the final battle was what I feel the most captivating and attractive part of the whole movie. I sincerely hope that future Marvel movies take reference to this movie for any of their future movies.

Character Development

As shown in the previous Avengers movie “Avengers: Infinity War”, those who survived the Thano’s snap were mainly from the original Avengers team from the very first Avengers movie. Therefore, the main focus would be the original six superheroes: Captain America, Iron man, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, and Hawk-eye. Each of them had a very important role in this road to redemption. There was a huge sacrifice that each of them had to make, for example, Iron man had to *Bleep* [ Spoiler so not going to reveal ]. XD Whether the sacrifice was worth it or not, I leave it to you to decide yourself.

Some important side characters are worth mentioning, such as Ant-Man and Captain Marvel, as they helped the main characters to achieve the impossible. Without their assistance, this movie would not have been great or even began.

Great emphasize on each surviving superhero which kind of explain to the viewers on the reason for their survival in the “Avengers: Infinity War”.

Special effects

Do I really have to comment on this? The amount of details is enormous in this movie and yet, the effects still turn out to be so stunning and spectacular. No other word to describe the special effects other than “Breathtaking”.

Memorable scenes

As I was typing this whole review, I have been thinking which scene was the most memorable to me. This is because there are just too many memorable scenes. I think for me, and most of the viewers out there, the final battle scene between Thanos and Avengers is the most iconic and memorable in this movie. I held my breath as both teams prepared for this epic war.

Overall Movie Rating: 10/10 (Best movie of 2019)

Movie duration : 3 hrs 2 mins

MIB International Review (2019) [PG13]

MIB International

For those who followed the MIB series, there is a new MIB movie, titled ” MIB International”. This is like MIB 4 but with new cast and focus more on the internal conflicts within MIB rather than the aliens.

Storyline

The story begins with Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) and Agent High T (Liam Nelson) doing their mission, known as the Hive Invasion, up in the Eiffel Tower. This mission proved to be the most historic mission in MIB history but it did not end there.

Afterward, we were introduced to a young Agent M (Tessa Thompson) where her encounter with MIB during her younger days, ended up becoming her dream and goal in the future, where she is now.

Agent M uses her intelligence and sharp observation skills to become Agent H’s partner. Their first mission eventually leads back to the Hive invasion.

Want to know what is the Hive invasion and how Agent H and M managed to save the earth? That’s for you to find out when you go watch the movie.

In general, this Sci-Fi movie has successfully moved away from the previous MIB series, acted by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. While the setting and costume remain the same, the storyline and gadgets are still worth watching.

Character Development

With a brand new partnership of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson who have previously worked in the Marvel movie, “Thor Ragnarok”, they both displayed great chemistry between them and through the characters that they played, you can see that they are inseparable. Agent H is bold and charismatic, but is sometimes careless and always a troublemaker. On the other hand, Agent M is sharp and smart, with a high level of intelligence and fighting skills. Thus, when these 2 combines,  they form a formidable team.

I guess the only cast that remains from the previous MIB series was Emma Thompson ( Agent O ). She played a minor role but yet an important character who recruited Agent M into the MIB. Without her, there would not even be a partner for Agent H in the first place.

Overall, there is a good balance in terms of the build-up of the characters, whether be it the main characters or the supporting cast. The only characters that I personally feel need more improvement are the aliens which are probably the main purpose of the entire MIB existence. I feel that they also need some storyline among them so that the audience can understand how scary or dangerous these aliens were.

Special Effects

In terms of the special effects, I feel the main CGI came more from the cool gadgets that the MIB agents used. There were a lot of efforts put in to create the gadgets as they appeared in places you would probably not have thought of. Take the car that the agents took as an example, almost every single part of the car had a gadget and just when you thought there were no more gadgets to display BOOM! another gadget appeared.

Memorable scenes

My personal memorable scene would be the chase scene that happened in Marrakesh (City in Morocco). This was also when both agents found themselves joined by another partner, named “Pawny” , the last survivor of a small group of aliens attacked by the Twins.

What was your favorite moment in this movie? Let us know in the comments below.

Overall Movie Rating: 7 / 10 (Storyline is predictable but the build-up to the climax was great.)

Spiderman : Far From Home Review (2019) [PG]

Spider-Man_Far_From_Home.png

It’s time to review one of the latest Marvel movies after “Avengers: End Game”,  entitled “Spiderman: Far From Home”. For those who have yet to watch the End Game, I strongly suggest that you do or you will get lost through some parts of the movie.

Storyline

The story begins with the aftermath of the Endgame and Peter Parker (Tom Holland) getting ready for his summer vacation to Venice. Well, the trip went smoothly until Nick Fury shows up in his room.

He had a mission for Peter Parker but as a 16-year-old kid, he feels he is not ready to step up as the next Iron man. In the end, did he manage to complete the mission and step up? That’s for you to find out when you watched the movie.

The movie has 1 major plot twist which is deemed as the most important and unexpected plot twist in this movie.

Character Development

As the main character of this movie, there were many challenges that Peter Parker faced as he was handled an important device that proved to be the key to this movie. However, through the challenges that he faced, you can see how he began to step up as a Superhero and not just a friendly neighborhood spider-man.

The side characters, such as Aunt May and Michelle (MJ), do have a nice build-up in their respective characters, as they help Peter Parker in making some of his decisions. The love between MJ and Peter Parker has developed further in this movie. This school trip was supposed to be a trip for Peter Parker to confess his love for MJ. However, things do not usually go according to plan in movies. Therefore, did Peter Parker and MJ get together in the end? Make sure you watched until the end of the movie to find out the answer.

Special Effects

The CGI and special effects are still definitely top notch and the director allows the audience to register some stunning moments in the action fight and not just boom boom boom finished.

Memorable Scenes

Earlier when I mentioned that there is a major plot twist in this movie, that scene itself is already very shocking and also memorable. However, the most memorable scene throughout this movie would be the scene where Spiderman is trapped in a virtual world. Just when you thought all the things that Peter Parker has gone through is real, reality strikes and boom, it’s all fake. Feels like the director took reference from the movie “Inception”. For those who have not watched the movie “Inception”, there is going to be a movie review on that movie very soon. Stay tuned for more.

Overall Movie Rating: 8 / 10 (The trailer has leaked quite a lot of scenes from the movie. This makes the beginning of the movie a bit boring as audiences can kind of predict the events that happened in the beginning.)

P.S. There are 2 post-credits scenes ( 1 Mid Credit and 1 After Credit)

Movie duration: 2 Hrs 9 Mins

Detective Pikachu Review (2019) [PG]

Detective Pikachu.jpg

Time to review the movie that every pokemon fan has been long waiting for, titled “Detective Pikachu”.

Storyline

Unlike the other animated Pokemon Movies, this movie starts off with a 21-year-old guy named Tim Goodman who didn’t wish to be a Pokemon trainer despite his love for Pokemon in his younger days. However, after his father went mysteriously missing, he went on a mission to find his father, along with his partner Pikachu. Therefore, did Tim and Pikachu managed to solve the missing case of Tim’s father, Harry? That’s for you to find out when you go watch the movie.

This movie has several plot twists throughout the movie. One cannot be too sure about the next upcoming event until you actually watched it yourself. As a start, watching Pikachu speaking the human language is already a big plot twist from other pokemon movies, but to see how Pikachu uses it’s detective skills in solving this mysterious case is another thing that is worth watching till the end.

Characters Development

While this movie featured Pokemon mainly from the first generation(Kanto), there are also several Pokemons that are from other generations which make the movie suitable for people of all ages, including those who don’t grow up with the original Pokemon series.  Each Pokemon that appeared in this movie makes an important contribution throughout this movie as they showed their individual ability/move. This all builds up to the final battle between Mewtwo and Pikachu. Why they fought in the first place? Hmm.. Watch the movie and you will understand.

Special Effects

The CGI for every pokemon was on fleek. While most of the pokemon can be duplicated in some scenes, there was still a lot of effort put in to ensure that every single pokemon looks exactly how the audience would expect these pokemon to look like. In addition, the human characters blend in well with those pokemon, which really made the whole movie felt like a 3D world if Pokemon Go is real, instead of it just being an app.

Memorable scenes

There were just so many moments where I go “Aww” but my personal favorite and memorable scene would have to be the fight between Pikachu and Charizard in an Underground Gym battle. I loved how Pikachu was able to use its intelligence to fight Charizard rather than using its ability/moves (apparently, Pikachu forgot how to use ElectricBolt/Shock). ><  It’s so fun to watch the entire battle which I hoped it could have lasted a bit longer without the interference of the human characters.

Overall Movie Rating: 8/10 (This movie is a unique one of a kind pokemon movie, but it feels like a movie to promote Pokemon Go. More actions between the pokemons would make this whole movie more interesting and fun to watch.)

Movie duration: 1 Hr 45 mins

Fast and Furious : Hobbs and Shaw Review (2019) [PG13]

Fast and Furious Hobbs and Shaw

Time to review one of the hottest movie release, titled “Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw”. For those who followed this movie series, don’t worry, this is not Fast 9. It’s more like a side story of Fast and Furious.

Storyline

As the title suggests, the main characters: Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and  Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) worked together to work on a mission in order to save the world. These two sworn enemies partnered up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than both of them. So who prevails? That’s for you to find out.

I believe the actions are the main important key in this movie. The actions have never disappointed the audience so far from the previous Fast and Furious movie series and also this movie as well.

Character Development

As for the characters, the main characters provide a lot of funny moments, especially when they bickered like some old couple. The side characters also made important contributions in this movie as they build-up to the final fight between the 2 main characters and the self-proclaimed “Bad guy”.

Special Effects

The CGI and Slow motion scenes were awesome, but I think they were not consistent in creating the environment. There was a scene in the final battle where it happened at night when the sun has set. However, halfway through the battle, the sun rises and it became morning. So, did they fought overnight or the edit team missed out on the details?

Memorable Scenes

While most of the memorable scenes come from the car chase, there was one memorable scene where Hobbs and Shaw had to travel out of the country with their fake ID. Hobbs was greeted with the customs officer and present his fake passport, where he read ” Mike Oxmall”. Try reading out this name out and you will know why this scene is one of the funniest, if not the funniest scene in this movie.

Overall Movie Rating: 8.5 / 10 (Give the side characters a bit more lines and it would be better)

Movie duration: 2 Hrs 16 mins
